Reevaluating EDI 

For years, EDI had been on the radar but was often deemed too costly or complex to integrate into their previous ERP. With Acumatica, however, the timing and technology finally aligned. 

“Historically speaking, we had considered EDI even back when we were on our previous ERP system,” shared James McKinnon, IT & Operations for over 25 years at Flags Unlimited. “At the time, it was very cost-prohibitive and still quite new for us—and even for the platform itself. Sometimes, though, these decisions happen for no logical reason; it just seems like the right time. When we switched to Acumatica, it felt like the right time to reevaluate the whole EDI scenario.” 

The switch was driven, in part, by mounting challenges. “We had partners urging us to get on EDI, and there was one summer in particular when a partner was sending us 60 to 70 orders a day,” McKinnon recalled. “At that point, we were still trying to manage everything manually. I attempted to create import scenarios early on in the transition, but the data quality issues—like incorrect part numbers and inconsistencies—made it a nightmare. Everything was being entered by hand, and people were staying ridiculously late into the night just to keep up.”
